Health and Safety Policy
Apex Grove Distribution Ltd ("Apex Grove") is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of our employees, subcontractors, clients and the communities in which we work. We comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2007 (OSHA) and the Work Injury Benefits Act 2007 of Kenya, and related regulations.
Responsibilities
The CEO holds overall responsibility for this policy. Project and site managers are responsible for implementing it on site. Every worker is responsible for working safely, following instructions and reporting hazards. Workers have the right to stop work they reasonably believe to be unsafe without penalty.
Risk Assessment
We assess risks before work starts on every project and review assessments when conditions change. Controls follow the hierarchy of elimination, substitution, engineering controls, safe systems of work, and personal protective equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment
We provide suitable PPE free of charge, including safety helmets, safety boots, high-visibility clothing, gloves, eye and hearing protection, and respiratory protection where required. PPE must be worn as instructed, and damaged items replaced promptly.
Site Safety
- Site inductions for all workers and visitors.
- Secure fencing, signage and traffic management, especially on road works and near public footpaths.
- Safe working at height, excavation support and lifting operations for structures such as footbridges.
- Safe storage and handling of fuels, chemicals and materials.
- First aid provision, welfare facilities and emergency procedures on every site.
Drilling Safety
- Only trained and competent operators run drilling rigs, compressors and associated plant.
- Pre-start checks on rigs, hoses, wire ropes and guards; exclusion zones around the rig.
- Checks for overhead power lines and buried services before setting up.
- Safe handling of drill rods, casing and pumps, and control of dust and noise.
- Boreholes are capped or covered when unattended to protect people and animals.
Plant and Vehicles
Vehicles and plant are maintained to a schedule. Drivers must be licensed, follow speed and rest limits, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Training and Consultation
We provide induction and task-specific training, and consult workers on safety matters, including through a safety committee where required by OSHA.
Incident Reporting
All accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported immediately. We investigate incidents, notify the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services where required, and act to prevent recurrence.
Subcontractors
Subcontractors must meet the standards in this policy and follow our site rules.
