Apex Grove Distribution Ltd drills boreholes across Africa and has won and delivered drilling contracts. Our water services cover hydrogeological surveys, drilling, equipping and maintenance, for county governments, government agencies, communities and private clients. We are licensed by the National Construction Authority (NCA) as a water works contractor.

How a borehole project works

  1. 1. Hydrogeological survey
A qualified hydrogeologist studies the site’s geology and existing water points and carries out a geophysical survey to identify the most promising drilling point and likely depth. The survey report supports the permit application.
  2. 2. Water Resources Authority (WRA) permit
In Kenya, sinking a borehole needs authorisation from the Water Resources Authority. The application is supported by the hydrogeological survey report, and environmental requirements from NEMA and county approvals may also apply. Drilling starts once the authorisation is in place.
  3. 3. Drilling
The rig drills to the target depth, logging the strata encountered. The hole is then cased and screened, gravel-packed and sealed at the top to protect the water from surface contamination, and developed to clear fines.
  4. 4. Test pumping
A pumping test measures the sustainable yield and how the water level recovers, and a water sample is analysed for quality. The results determine the right pump and how much water the borehole can safely supply.
  5. 5. Equipping with solar pumps
Where site conditions, yield and client requirements make it suitable, we recommend and install solar-powered pumping systems, which reduce diesel generator use over the life of the asset. Equipping can include storage tanks and distribution points.
  6. 6. Maintenance of financed boreholes
A borehole only delivers value while it keeps running. For financed programmes we provide maintenance after drilling: routine inspection and servicing of pumps and solar systems, repairs and water-quality checks. Our Narok County programme with Earthe carries a 10-year maintenance term.

Where we have drilled

Our borehole projects include work in Homa Bay County, Kakamega and Narok County, where we are delivering a borehole programme with Earthe that includes solar-powered water treatment and community Wi-Fi at each site. See our borehole projects →
